Mi experience con los ejercicios para la digestión han sido de mucho contraste. Gracias a los ejercicios para la digestión, mis problemas de inflamación por lácteos y glúten han disminuido. He notado menos inflacmación en mi estómago. Por ejemplo, la primera semana noté que mi estómago evacuó gran cantidad fecal. Por otra parte, noté que empecé a confiarme en la sensación desinflamatoria de mi estómago y comencé a ingerir harinas y lácteos, por ende, mi estómago se volvía inflamar. Sin embargo, la práctica de
yoga me ha hecho más consciente de la manera en la que como, y ahora, antes de comer aquéllo que sé que me inflama, pienso en la sensación incómoda de mi estómago al entrenar kickboxing, y me abstengo de dañarlo. Otro beneficio con la práctica del yoga es mi estado de ánimo; tengo un poco más de energía al entrenar. El cambio más notable también fue en mi elasticidad. Yo practico Taekwondo y kickboxing, al hacer 30 minutos de ejercicios de estiramiento diarios, noto que mis patadas llegan más alto. Además, algo curioso que noté fue que empiezo a ser más consciente de cómo llevar una vida más saludable y proporcionarme bienestar. Eso lo noté cuando empezamos a tocar partes del cuerpo para mejorar la digestión, pude sentir cómo al tocarlas me dolían y era porque estaba muy inflamada. Ahora puedo reconocer cuando esto pasa y ya sé qué ejercicios hacer para sentirme mejor. Por último, quiero compartir mis sentimientos con las mudras, al practicarlos empecé a entenderlos. Sentí que es como bailar con tus manos, un mudra me lleva al otro y empiezan a tener sentido en conjunto. Aunque aún no sé todo su significado, la sensación que me dejan después de practicarlas es de felicidad y paz. Gracias Shanti por enseñarme a dar salud a mi cuerpo, mente y espíritu. --Alma Romo

Every time I take my class I feel so connected to my mind and body and that it’s thanks to Shanti’s guidance throughout the class. Her explanation to every single pose and their benefits encourages you to give your best. Her way to approach every single yoga class is different because she always wants to make sure your body is up to the challenge and the poses she has to avoid or add to the routine. The way she designs your class on the spot is amazing mainly when you have a knee or back problem.

Her flexibility to do her classes from home via Xoom or What’s App it’s the cherry on top mainly during this time where possibly going to a yoga studio or gym might not be the safest way to stretch and connect with your body.

Cada vez que tomo mi clase me siento tan conectado con mi mente y mi cuerpo y eso es gracias a la guía de Shanti durante toda la clase. Su explicación de cada pose y sus beneficios te anima a dar lo mejor de tí aunque estés tirando la toalla. Yo conozco a Shanti desde hace como 6 ó 7 años . Desde entonces, yo y mis hijas hemos tomado clases con Shanti. Algo que me gusta de Shanti es su experiencia, conocimiento y sensibilidad . Sus clases están muy bien estructuradas pero al mismo tiempo es sensible a nuestras necesidades. Ella sabe muy bien lo que hace y me gusta que nos da desafíos y anima a mantener una buena alimentación y una vida saludable. Especialmente con los niños, no los fuerza a hacer cosas que ellos no se sientan cómodos pero los anima a intentar nuevas cosas y experimentar nuevas experiencias.

Shanti Kumari Johnson has been teaching yoga and meditation to the senior community served by the Indo-American Center (IAC) since Summer 2018. Her skill, facility, patience, and experience as a master teacher shows in the motivation level of the seniors, who eagerly looks forward to her bi-weekly sessions. It is a testament to her expertise that nearly all seniors that attend the community center, participate in the activity, some even choosing to attend the center on the days the classes are held.
